Why did you select KU for your university?
After my freshman year attending Texas State University and then studying abroad in Costa Rica, I decided to transfer to KU as a sophomore. I wanted to meet people from out-of-state and get the big feeling of a university with traditions and sports... and it was exactly what I wanted! My best friend also grew up as a Jayhawk and pretty much converted me.
What's your favorite KU tradition?
I think it's a blast to Wave the Wheat, and to sing the alma mater. Also, the opening video at basketball games gives me the chills every time!
What's a few of your favorite things about KU.
I LOVE how diverse KU is. There are so many different kinds of people and things to do, so it's never boring. It also doesn't hurt that the campus is mainly flat because I LOVE riding my bike.
Describe your typical Saturday night in Lawrence.
I pretty much just go with the flow, but you can usually find me out with my friends, normally on the dance floor! :) I think the Hookah House and Jazz Haus are both a blast, and I'm also pretty obsessed with 3Spoons.
Do you have a favorite sport at KU?
I've always been a football girl, but nothing beats a KU basketball game.
What is the dream job you would like to have after graduation?
I want to travel the world and be immersed in different cultures by living in small villages for 1-2 years at a time, doing anthropological research and learning from the people and their ways of life. By developing relationships and trust with the local people, I'd be able to help them make certain aspects of their livelihoods more sustainable for their environment, since many small villages and communities in the world rely heavily on the land and animals for survival yet, have no idea that their actions are often actually killing them. I think this would be an amazing experience because while I would be able to educate the people and help them preserve their environment, I would gain so much more in return through my newfound relationships with the people and knowledge of their culture. If I could take photos for National Geographic, that'd be the icing on the cake!
Why did you choose to be part of the Women of KU calendar?
At first my friends encouraged me to do it, and then I realized how much fun it'd be and what a great experience I could get out of it!
What 3 or 4 words describes you best?
Hmm.. forgetful, quirky, loving, a dreamer... I'm a dirty hippie sorority-girl that wants to save the world!
Why did you choose your major?
I've always wanted to join the Peace Corp after graduating, and I still plan on it! I'm very indecisive so I'm majoring in Anthropology, International Studies, and Environmental Studies (because I couldn't make up my mind) and I love observing how humans interact with their environment!
Are you involved in anything on or off campus you are proud of?
Besides being in the sorority Delta Gamma, I also work at a rock climbing gym, and my biggest passion at KU is KU Dance Marathon. We work all year to raise money for Children's Miracle Network, and then there's a huge celebration in honor of all these amazing kids that have fought disease, cancer, injuries, etc. This year it's on February 4th, 2012.. and I'd love to see everyone there!
What special talents do you have?
I'm an extremely patient person and also very, very open minded. I think those are talents?
Name something that most people don't know about you.
I used to be really shy and sometimes I still have my moments, but I love meeting people so please introduce yourself to me! My family, friends, and the sun are the 3 things in life I could never live without... and.. if I could go barefoot everyday I would.
What do you look for in a guy? What is sexy?
I love guys that stick to what they believe in and don't always follow the norm (but are still respectful towards other's beliefs). Having an open mind is probably the most important thing to me, because I have some very unique interests and love trying new things. It's definitely a turn on when a guy is passionate about something, or when he's really close to his family. Interests in science, being outdoors, traveling, photography.. all great too:)
Tattoos - Turn on or turn off?
Turn on, if they have meaning behind them and aren't too over the top. I hate when people say they want a tattoo but don't know what they want to get... that means you don't need one!
Would you say you are more country girl or city girl?
I can really go either way. I love country music (from Texas) but I also love the big city life.
Roses or chocolates?
Neither, try something different like a sunflower!
What is your favorite part of being in the calendar?
This is something so different than anything I've ever experienced and I'm really enjoying getting to know all the amazing women in it with me! Dave is awesome, too :)
