What was it like being photographed at Darby Dan Farms, one of the most prestigious horse farms in KY for the very first, Women of UK Swimsuit Calendar?
It was an awesome experience to say the least! I was a little nervous because I've never done anything like this before but the farm was so beautiful and so relaxing I quickly forgot my nerves. Seeing the horses, the landscape, walking through the stables...I was nothing short of proud to be a Kentuckian!
What is your favorite part of being in the calendar, so far?
Hmmm...besides the chance to gain new friends in the other calendar girls, we have all been treated like royalty. The calendar owner and photographer, Dave Gillispie and director/organizer, Tim Thomas, have done all they can to make us feel special. The experience really has been more than I could have imagined and the true calendar year hasn't even started yet!
Why did you select UK for your university?
First and foremost, I've always been a Wildcat! Second, I remember exactly where I was when I decided on UK. I was in 5th grade, standing in the middle of Times Square, NYC with my family. Even though I love New York City, being there made me appreciate Kentucky so much more. I applied ONLY to UK my senior year of high school. There was no other option for me!
What's your favorite UK tradition?
Describe one of your favorite things about UK, and/or Lexington.
It's hard to choose just one thing, but as a competitor in the Miss Kentucky America system, I love that the pageant is held at the Singletary Center on UK's campus. It's a tradition I am privileged to be a part of.
Describe your typical weekend night in Lexington.
My favorite weekends include Friday night dinners at Colombia's Steakhouse, followed by a movie at the Kentucky Theater with my boyfriend. As for Saturday, anything goes! Sundays are all about homework but it's still the weekend so Orange Leaf is my last splurge! (Every cake flavor, tons of peanut butter, topped with anything chocolate!)
Do you have a favorite sport at UK?
If winning is my favorite UK tradition, basketball is my favorite UK sport!
What is the dream job you would like to have after graduation?
I'm lucky because my dream job is happening! When I graduate in May I will be starting as a Spanish translator for RJ Corman in Nicholasville. Surprisingly, connections I made through this calendar helped me to land an interview for the company.
Why did you choose to be part of the Women of UK calendar?
As soon as I was contacted about being a part of the calendar, I said yes. I knew this opportunity would not only be fun, but help me make important connections. Who knows where this will lead me. After all, it has already helped me secure a job post-graduation!
List 3 or 4 words that describe you best?
Dependable: I try never to be late and if I say I'll be there, I will be there!
Decisive: I almost always know exactly what I want.
Friendly: I can strike up a conversation with anyone. If they don't have any place to be, we could end up talking for hours!
Caring: I like to do the little things I know will make others happy. If you need it, I will cook for you, do my best to make you laugh, or make 6 am trips to Spalding's Bakery for donuts while they're still warm. (Although that one benefits me too!)
Why did you choose your major?
I am a Spanish major with a minor in English. I've visited several Spanish-speaking countries and fallen in love every time. The language is beautiful, the countries are beautiful, and the food just seals the deal.
Are you involved in anything on or off campus you are proud of?
Yes! I am an official "Blanketeer" for the Project Linus Organization. I have been a part of this organization since I was 14 years old. If you haven't heard of Project Linus, check it out: www.projectlinus.org
I have donated almost 300 blankets so far!
What special talents do you have?
I've been a pianist for 14 years, play the ukulele often, and recently, the harmonica. I asked for a mandolin for Christmas! I love learning new instruments. I'm starting a one-woman band soon.
Name something that most people don't know about you.
If I could, I would go to Space Camp...tomorrow. I am currently researching how I can become an astronaut. Don't laugh. I'm dead serious.
What do you look for in a guy? What is sexy?
There isn't a specific list of things I look for...I know it when I see it!
But what ISN'T sexy is a guy who is controlling or isn't supportive of my goals! You gotta let me be me!
Tattoos - Turn on, turn off, I'm fine either way?
I love tattoos but only if they're done in the right way! This means a good placement, a good meaning behind it, and good execution.
Would you say you are more country girl or city girl?
I'm only country for the food and the landscape! In every other aspect, I'm a city girl.
Roses or chocolates?
Neither! If you want to make me happy, take me to Ulta and buy me nail polish. It's my guilty pleasure and the one thing I can never say no to. There is a color for every mood and you will never see me without it on!
I want to say…
I want to say how honored I am to be a part of the first ever Women of UK Swimsuit Calendar. The experience, the other girls, Dave Gillispie and Tim Thomas, have all been wonderful. This is the beginning of what I hope will be a long-standing tradition at the University of Kentucky. So, to all the girls that attend or hope to attend UK, this experience is for you, too! Next year, I hope there will be applicants lined up from K Tower to Patterson Office Tower...every girl deserves the chance to be a part of such a fun and unique experience!
