What was it like being photographed in Florida this year for the 2013 Women of KU Swimsuit Calendar?
The experience felt so surreal! I have always been interested in modeling, but Victoria’s Secret isn't exactly knocking on your door when you are only 5’5’’. Shooting in Florida was amazing – beautiful scenery and great company. It was truly a once in a lifetime experience!
What is your favorite part of being in the calendar?
My favorite part is definitely getting to meet and hang out with all of the girls. They are all such beautiful people, inside and out.
Why did you select KU for your university?
I grew up in Kansas, and I wanted to stay in-state. The obvious choice was KU!
What's your favorite KU tradition?
I have a lot of favorite KU traditions, so I’m going to go ahead and substitute that with my favorite Lawrence tradition: the zombie walk!!
Describe one of your favorite things about KU and/or Lawrence.
My favorite thing about KU is the variety of cultural, political, religious, and social viewpoints that I have encountered. It has really broadened my perspective, coming from a smaller Kansas town.
Describe your typical weekend night in Lawrence.
My typical weekend night consists of me spending several hours in my lab, convincing myself that I will be productive if I go home instead of the library, and then falling asleep at 10 pm. It’s an exciting life, not sure how I handle it sometimes.
Do you have a favorite sport at KU?
I love KU Cheerleading! I was going to try out my freshman year, but I tore my ACL.
What is the dream job you would like to have after graduation?
Well, I’m on track for my dream job right now. The plan is to matriculate to medical school either this year or the next. As of now, I am currently interested in the fields of pediatrics, neurology, and oncology; however, I’m sure my interests will evolve as I make my way through med school.
Why did you choose to be part of the Women of KU calendar?
I was in the calendar last year, and it was one of the best experiences of my junior year. As soon as Dave said shooting was going to be in Florida the next year, I couldn't wait to try out again! I am happy to be part of a calendar which highlights women that epitomize fitness, intelligence, and school spirit.
List 3 or 4 words that describe you best?
Motivated, passionate, open-minded
Why did you choose your major?
My major is neurobiology with a premedicine concentration. What could be more fascinating than studying the very organ you are studying with?!? The mysteries of the brain are far from being unraveled, and each day neuroscience makes leaps and bounds of progress that I find fascinating.
Are you involved in anything on or off campus you are proud of?
On campus, I’m proud to be involved in KU’s secular student group, SOMA, and also KU’s premedical fraternity, PhiDE. Off campus, I volunteer frequently for organizations that have special meaning to me like the Lawrence Humane Society and the Adopt-A-School program at Deerfield Elementary.
What special talents do you have?
I am good at handstands. Like reeeally good at handstands. One-handed handstands, handstand push ups stag, double stag, split, scorpion handstands and pirouettes galore. It is a not-so-useful by-product of years of gymnastics + yoga + crossfit.
Name something that most people don't know about you.
Most people don’t know that I am obsessed with zombies, vampires, witches, and monsters in general. I am a huge fan of horror/scifi movies and novels.
What do you look for in a guy? What is sexy?
I look for guys that are adventurous, sweet, and honest. As far as sexiness, I think that intelligence wins that award.
Tattoos - Turn on, turn off, I'm fine either way?
Just depends on what the tattoo is depicting. They don’t change my impression of a person, but I do tend to like when a guy has meaningful and/or creative tattoos.
Would you say you are more country girl or city girl?
Both, I suppose! I grew up in the country, and I love to do activities like hiking and riding ATVs. However, I love the liberal culture of big city life, and I hope to move to New York someday.
Roses or chocolates?
While I enjoy both of those, I am much more interested in creative gifts that come from the heart! Making my favorite meal, going on a date on a paddle boat, or buying me warm fuzzy socks are some random examples that would mean a lot more to me.
I want to say...
This has been a great four years at KU, and I am so happy to have spent the past two in the calendar!! Shooting in Florida was amazing, and I want to say a HUGE thanks to Dave and everyone else who made the calendar so beautiful this year. Rock Chalk!
